Start-up of the new rotary furnace of Compañía Valenciana de Aluminio
- Last week we started up the new rotary melting furnace at the Grupo Baux plant in Segorbe, which will significantly increase the company’s production capacity.
After several months of installation and tests, the project to increase the production capacity of the aluminum scrap melting area has passed to the production phase.
The centerpiece of this project is the new tilting rotary furnace, with a capacity of 65 tons, one of the largest in the world. Together with the existing rotary kilns, it will allow to reach a total capacity of 84,000 tons of hot-rolled aluminum produced per year.
The main feature of these furnaces is that they improve the utilization of the scrap melted in them, reducing metal losses in the process. It also reduces the energy consumption required for melting.
The project is completed by the fume control and treatment system, using sleeve filters that retain the harmful components of combustion and ensure the emission of clean air into the atmosphere.
Compañía Valenciana de Aluminio produces rolled aluminum coils using scrap as raw material (99.5% according to ISO 14021 certification). This new facility, which has just started up, will allow us to increase our capacity to recycle aluminum scrap by 20,000 tons and give new life to this material, which would otherwise have to be sent to landfills.
The project will also help us to continue improving the carbon footprint of our products, which is already among the lowest in the market, with 1.54 tons of CO2 for each ton of aluminum produced.
With this new tool, Grupo Baux advances in our commitment to the circular economy and the reduction of the carbon footprint, contributing to sustainability and environmental care.
